
Making Your PET Blow Molding Lamps Actually Fit
We’ve built our infrared lamps to be simple drop-in replacements. In fact, they work with over 95% of the blow molding machines you’ll find globally. But this isn’t some generic “one size fits all” gimmick. It’s just about respecting the physics and electrical rules that keep PET preforms heating correctly.
The numbers that matter
Getting the heat density right is a balancing act. You’ve got to juggle voltage, wattage, and length. Take a typical 300mm tube running at 400V. That setup lets us push high wattage without blowing a circuit. If you go too low on voltage, your ramp-up time drags, and your high-speed lines slow down. Go too high? You’ll fry the filament way too soon. We spend a lot of time calibrating the ohms so these lamps hit the target temperature in a matter of seconds.**Fast.**That’s the goal.
The guts of the lamp
We use high-purity quartz glass because it can take the punch of rapid thermal cycling without cracking. Most of our units are filled with halogen gas, which basically acts as a shield to keep the tungsten filament alive longer. As for the plugs, we stick with R7s and SK15 connectors. They’re the old reliable of the industry. They stay tight. No arcing, no loosening, even when your production floor is shaking from the machinery.
Using them in the real world
These lamps live in the oven section of your PET blower. The whole point is to get an even heat across the preform wall. To help with that, we offer different coatings that shift the IR spectrum. It ensures the heat actually sinks into the plastic instead of just scorching the top layer. One quick heads-up, though. High-wattage tubes get incredibly hot. If your cooling fans are clogged with dust or just aren’t pulling enough air, your lamp housing is going to bake. When that happens, your connectors will degrade and fail, no matter how high the quality of the lamp is. Keep the airflow moving, and these things will last.
