
Keeping Little Eyes Safe Around Bathroom Heaters
When we build infrared heaters for bathrooms, we’re juggling two things: making you feel warm the second you step out of the shower, and making sure those lights aren’t hurting your kids’ eyes. Here’s the tricky part. That “instant heat” everyone loves usually comes from short-wave radiation. For most of us, it’s fine. But babies and toddlers have lenses in their eyes that are way more transparent than ours. They let in more UV and short-wave IR, which can really stress out a tiny retina. We can’t have that. So, we tweak the light. We use specific coatings and doped quartz glass to block out the harsh stuff—like high-energy blue light and UV—and push the energy into the long-wave infrared band. Basically, we’re cutting the glare, not the heat. You still get that cozy warmth on your skin, but your optic nerve doesn’t take a hit. The hardware helps too. We don’t want a “spotlight” effect beaming straight into a child’s eyes. To stop that, we use frosted reflectors and diffused lenses. It breaks up the light and scatters it, while still pushing the heat exactly where it needs to go: down. Now, there’s a catch. Filtering the light means we lose a tiny bit of raw power. These aren’t industrial lamps used to cure paint in a factory; they’re for your home. To us, that trade-off is a no-brainer. You get a softer glow and a much safer space for your kids. One last thing—please get your wiring right. If the voltage is off, the filament can overheat. When that happens, the light shifts back into those dangerous frequencies. Just match your driver to the lamp specs, and everything stays soft and safe.
