Getting the Heat Right in Your Husky HyPET System
If you’ve spent any time with high-speed PET blowing, you know the struggle. It’s a balancing act. You need the heat to soak deep into the core of the preform, but you can’t just crank the dial and scorch the surface. It’s a frustrating line to walk. That’s why we build our lamps the way we do. We focus on short-wave infrared, which is basically a fancy way of saying we get the heat where it actually needs to go. The secret is in the light. We spend a lot of time messing with the filament, tuning the voltage and wattage so the energy hits the PET material at just the right frequency. The result? The plastic absorbs the heat faster. You spend less time waiting in the oven, which means you can push your machine harder. We also use high-purity quartz glass. If the tube wall has impurities, it blocks the radiation. We don’t let that happen. No fuss, just a perfect fit. We made these as drop-in replacements. Whether you’re using R7s or SK15 connectors, they just slide right in. To keep things stable, we fill the lamps with halogen gas. This stops the filament from evaporating too quickly, so your light output doesn’t dip after a few weeks. Plus, we use special coatings that bounce the heat back toward the preform instead of letting it soak into your oven walls. It’s just a smarter way to use energy. The real-world trade-off. Now, here’s the thing. These lamps pack a massive punch. You’ll see faster cycle times and bottles with much more consistent wall thickness. It feels great when the line is humming. But there’s a catch. All that power creates a lot of ambient heat. If you go for the maximum power specs, your cooling blowers have to be spot on. If your airflow is choked or your filters are dirty, you’re asking for trouble—you could overheat the oven housing or burn out your lamps way too soon. One quick tip: every time you swap a lamp, take a second to check your reflectors. If they’re dirty or worn, it doesn’t matter how good the lamp is; the heat isn’t going to hit the preform. Keep them clean, and you’re golden.
